Sleep

Burning the candle at both ends may initially burn more calories, but truth be told, lack of sleep will increase your cortisol production (the stress hormone).  Lack of sleep is stressful on your body. The end result, slower metabolism, and stored fat. Try to get at least 7 hours a night.

Plank

You can significantly increase your core strength by doing this single exercise. The plank (or less commonly referred to as the 'hover', 'abdominal bridge' and 'front hold') is an isometric exercise (static = no joint or muscle movement).  The plank can be modified, however, the most common is belly button facing the ground, holding the body up and off of the ground with two points: the forearms and toes.  Planking tightens, strengthens and conditions: the shoulders, back, butt, stomach, chest and legs. Planking for mere minutes a day will make significant positive physical changes that you can both see and feel.

Measuring Tape

Do yourself a favour, stop standing on a scale. If your interested in tracking your body's size, use a measuring tape. Measure everything. Neck.  Biceps. Above your breasts. Around your breasts (nipple line).  Smallest part of your waist. At your Belly button. Largest part of hips. Thighs. Above your knee. Calf.
5lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle weigh the same...5lbs. BUT muscle is smaller than fat. Your standard bathroom scale does NOT measure that.

Mason Jars

Smoothies, shakes, juices, energy drinks, .... all require a vessel to mix and to consume. Utilizing a mason jar, or old jam jar is brilliant. Glass is easy to clean, does not stain or leach toxins. The jars are calibrated to take the guess work out of "how much" is in this? The jars come with seals that are tight fitting, which make the container suitable for travel or storage.

Water. Water. Water.  This is not new or news. Water is essential for life.  We learned in grade school, Air, Water, Shelter and Food are necessary to exist.  In the first world we seldom think of how fortunate we are to have water readily available. And because we do, we are in an incredible position to utilize it to meet our full potential. Water is pinnacle for a functioning metabolism and for ridding the body of toxins. You will see immediate improvement in your health by ensuring you consume 2-3 litres of water daily.

LIME

It has been said that the use of salt leads to hypertension, water retention and destruction of the flavours in food. Industrial salts like table salt, kosher, and cheap sea salts are not foods they are chemicals.  If salting your culinary creations is a must, consider the use of LIME. Lime hits on the same taste buds as salt, however, it grows on trees.

SUGAR

Not for your inside but rather your outside. Use white sugar as an exfoliant. Wet face, gently massage sugar around face avoiding eyes, rinse. Dead skin cells are removed leaving skin rejuvenated and better able to absorb moisturizers. Do not over exfoliate. Once per week is optimal.
